On Tuesday 6th November, a team of twenty year 5 and 6 students took part in the Sedgefield Sportshall Athletics competition, held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. Each child competed in up to two running and field events and certainly faced some tough competition. With determination and hard work, the team successfully finished in a fantastic second position, qualifying into the final of the Sedgefield SSP competition.
The final was held on Friday 29th November, at Shildon Leisure Centre. The girls and boys knew that they needed to work hard and try their very best at the event. The competition proved stronger than ever, but the team worked effectively together, cheering and encouraging their friends and remained focused throughout.
With a combined score of all of the individual and team events, our team finished in fifth position overall. We are extremely proud of their achievements and they are now determined to come back even stronger in the Summer competition!
A special mention must be made for Naomi Simpson who came first place in her long jump event. She absolutely smashed the County Durham record in the event, which she already held, following last years competition!
